How comfortable is your pet visiting vets in Vancouver WA?
Here at Claus Paws Animal Hospital, we want your pets to feel as comfortable as possible coming in to see us. We know everyone is different. While some cats and dogs are happy and relaxed going anywhere with their people, other pets get very stressed and anxious about going to see their veterinarian. We want to help your pets increase their comfort level when coming to see us. It just makes it happier for pets and people alike when the stress level is down. Here are some ideas that have been successful with some of our other patients.
For cats try using a soft-sided carrier that can also serve as a cat bed. If it has a top that zips open, that is helpful when it comes time to take the cat out. It is also a good idea to leave the carrier out around the house ahead of time so your cat feels comfortable in it, and doesn’t associate it only with visits to the vet. Try putting treats or catnip in the carrier once in a while so he/she has a positive reason to go inside. Some clients have success using Feliway spray in the carrier or on a towel. It’s a relaxing pheromone that helps reduce a cat’s stress level.
Dogs who are nervous about coming in to the veterinary clinic can often be distracted by some special treats. If there are some that you know your dog especially likes, or your dog is on a restricted diet, you can bring in his favorite treats. Another thing you can do to help your dog feel more comfortable coming in to the clinic is to do some practice runs to the lobby to desensitize him/her.
Whatever you need to do to make veterinarian visits less stressful for your pets is well worth the time and effort it may take. Not all vets in Vancouver WA will take the time with you and your pet to make it a relaxing experience. See what a difference Claus Paws Animal Hospital can make for your pets.
